Why a tower shot works so well

A lifeguard tower is one of the strongest frames a beach can offer. It is tall, painted in one bold colour and set against open sky, so the eye goes to it first. Put a person beside it, or on its steps, and the clip already has a subject, a horizon and a sense of place before the model moves anything.

The model reads the scene from your photo. A shot taken from the sand gives it the tower, the flags and the surf line as they really are.
